The Martian – Andy Weir

If it wasn’t for the movie, I never would’ve found out about this book. It’s very simple, very easy to read and it’s very amusing.

Short summary

This is the story of Mark Watney, an astronaut who gets stuck on Mars.

He and his crew are on the mission Ares 3 that goes terribly wrong. A storm is coming and they are ordered to leave Mars immediately. Unfortunately one of the antennas gets blown away by the wind and stabs Mark Watney. His suit doesn’t give any signs that he is alive, so the crew, presuming that he is dead, leaves him there.

But, the next day Mark wakes up. As he says, he is trying to solve more and more problems that come in the way so that he could stay alive until the arrival of Ares 3.

Luckily, thanks to the satellites orbiting Mars, NASA finds out that Mark is still alive and they even manage to get in contact.

While NASA is preparing a rescue mission for Mark, he does everything that he can to survive until the rescue.

This is a very fun book and you won’t be able to put it down ’till the very end. If you like science-fiction, I would strongly recommend this.
